PANAMA CITY AND THE CANAL: The capital city offers a breathtaking contrast between its skyscrapers, its banking area, its malls and the historical and colonial Panama.
Start your visit with Panama la Vieja, ruins of the first city built on the Pacific coast and classified by UNESCO as world heritage in 2003. Visit the cathedral tower, numerous churches and well preserved convents! Continue your visit and make sure you don’t miss the colonial district called «Casco Antiguo», as well UNESCO world heritage. There you will find a mixture of French, Italian and Spanish colonial architecture, a place where it is worth strolling or having a drink on the terrace of a coffee bar.
Facing the city of Panama there is an ideal place where to wander, admire the countryside and have a drink: called « Cause Way ». This 3kms long dyke links the islands of Naos, Perico and Flamenco where stand quite a few bars, restaurants, discotheques and arts and crafts boutiques.
Last but not least the set of Miraflores Locks stands a few kilometers away from Panama: Museum and restaurant are waiting there for you. Miraflores locks, a little wonder of engineering that must not be missed! Top>
TABOGA: Nicknamed Flowers Island, facing the city only 40 minutes away by boat. This charming island is famous for its multicolored Bougainvilleas and its prestigious visitors such as conqueror Andres Pizarro, pirate Henry Morgan as well as painter Paul Gauguin, who affected with malaria, spent there a part of his convalescence. THE PEARLS ARCHIPELAGO: Consisting of 220 islands the main ones being Isla del Rey (King island), Contadora island and Viveros island, the archipelago owes its name to the wonderful pearls that were found in the oysters lying on its seabed. The famous « Peregrina » the biggest pearl ever found and offered to Queen Elizabeth by Charles the Fifth (and owned nowadays by actress Elisabeth Taylor) would come from the Pearls Archipelago. BOCAS DEL TORO ARCHIPELAGO: ECOTOURISM AND SURFING: This province finds itself on the north western part of Panama, between Salamanca cordillera and the Caribbean Sea, a few kilometers away from Costa Rica. It is essentially peopled with natives Nogbe-bugle and West-Indians who arrived during the 19th century.
The main island was called Isla Colon. There stands the capital city of Bocas del Toro province with most hotels and restaurants. The islands are surrounded with coral reefs. Bastismentos National Park has lovely beaches with white sand and crystal water. On Colon Island there are beautiful beaches with golden sand and ideal waves for surfing. Bocas wonderfully combines land and sea, eco-tourism and seaside. Do not forget the visit of splendid islands such as the Cayos Zapatillas, from April to June when turtles are laying, and the famous Dolphin Bay where you can watch these animals on the loose ! Top>
KUNA YALA ARCHIPELAGO: ETHNIC PARADISE: This beautiful archipelago is made of 365 tropical and coral islands scattered on 400 km. Many of them are still uninhabited. The ideal spot to spend unforgettable holidays. Kuna Yala or San Blas is the land of Kunas Indians who are in charge of this region administration.

COLON REGION COLON: The city of Colon standing at about 1h30 from the capital city is not a city without charm with its population mainly afro-west-Indian, its commercial and cruise ships port as well as its famous free zone. Unfortunately, Colon is «Panama’s forgotten city » with a high unemployment rate and many social problems so that it is highly inadvisable to have a walk there. Top>

SAN LORENZO STRONGHOLD: On Río Chagres estuary, its only access by land consists in crossing a removable bridge on Gatún Locks. Located on a promontory, this UNESCO World Heritage was used to push back the attacks of pirates in pursuit of gold in this region. CENTRALE PROVINCES: COLONIAL FOLKLOR BIRTHPLACE COCLE:Coclé region stands in the center of Panama Isthmus. Its main city is called Penonome. All along the Pacific Coast one may find beautiful beaches only one or two hours from the capital city, with all the conveniences of all inclusive hotels.
It is a province where many people live out of arts and crafts. The main product they work on is the natural textile fiber. They are well known for their typical hats made of palm tree fibers and of two colors, black and white. It is a very fine craft industry but watch out, nothing to do with the famous Panama hat made in Ecuador! Top>
EL VALLE: Located at an altitude of 600 meters, the village of Valle de Anton was built in the center of a volcano crater. Small village with holiday homes adorned with lush gardens, there you will have the opportunity to admire the golden frog at Nispero botanical garden, as well as various species of monkeys, parrots and other animals. AZUERO PENINSULA: It is the region of stock breeders, of ceramics, silversmith’s trade, but above all of the national folklore dress: la Pollera. Las Tablas is the capital city of Los Santos region and famous for its carnival and its beauty queens. In February do not miss the best carnival in the country, in July the processions of the Virgin of Santa Librada, in October the festival of the Mejorana in Guarare!
This region offers a great diversity for ecotourism with Sarigua desert as well as Isla Iguana, a woodsy shelter with its coral reefs, various kinds of fishes, whales’ transit spot. For fishing amateurs, the coasts of Azuero coast are a true sanctuary, and its large beaches still not much visited. Top>
VERAGUAS - COIBA: Veraguas is the only province that has the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean as borderline with a great deal of beaches still little commercialized by the tourist industry. Its Pacific coast is well known for its huge waves and its surfing competitions of international level. Top>
Coiba is a 270 000 hectares national park that bears the name of a 16th century indigenous chef. It used to shelter some 3000 prisoners. They were recently relocated in order to open this sea sanctuary to tourism with the creation of a park on the main island of Coiba. Its fauna and flora are quite rich. The island benefits from the second coral reef in the Pacific with 69 fish species among which various dolphins and sharks species. A perfect hangout to observe the sea fauna among which humpback whales and killer whales! Top>
CHIRIQUI: BARU VOLCANO, HIGHLANDS AND WILD BEACHES: A province located at the extreme northern part of the country. This region has a common border with Costa Rica. Go and see Barú Volcano sides where you can enjoy a good coffee in the villages of Boquete or Guadalupe. Discover the wild coasts, admire the orchids, enjoy the coolness of the heights and go hiking to catch sight of the Maya imperial bird : the quetzal ! DARIEN: INDIANS AND LUXURIANT JUNGLE: Located at the extreme eastern part of the country, this province shares a common border with Colombia on the east, Kuna Yala territory on the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the south. La Palma is the main city in the province where most of the afro-darien population masses.
Sister of Amazon, Darien offers high flow rivers, mangroves, deep tropical jungle and wild beaches. There, three native ethnic groups are keeping a traditional way of life: Kunas, Emberas and Wounaan people. Top>
