CARACAS

When Diego de Losada built the city of Santiago de Leon de Caracas in 1567, he never thought that this town was going to be one day a such important city, rich for its traditions and its modernity. Nowadays Caracas is one of the most particular and attractive city in South America.
The modernization of the city started under the presidency of Guzman Blanco who built, between 1872 and 1876, certain of the most famous buildings of Caracas: the Capitol, the Federation Arc and the Public Theater . Since the 40's, the city has been into a quick growth which has developed new faces, rhythms and habits.


Downtown is a historic and dynamic district. There is "Plaza Bolivar" surrounded with the Cathedral, the Yellow House (Casa Amarilla) and the Municipal Council of Caracas, and the Capitol and the Siege of the Congress.

On the East, we can hit upon "Central Park", a district important for the presence of the "Teresa Careño" Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Children Museum, the National Art Gallery, the "Beaux Arts" Museum, the Natural Sciences Museum and the Ateneo Theater. This large cultural zone occupied with Theatres, concert and conferences rooms are receiving frequently international conventions.
Different parks and natural places over the city are offering to the citizens a "green face" and a source of freshness and shadowiness for a weather usually hot


From the bridge going to Plaza Venezuela, it is a modern and provocative city. The district of "Sabana Grande" with its large streets, its terraces and restaurants, as well as "El Rosal" and "Las Mercedes" which are ideal part of the city to shop and to get into the nightlife. The advertissement agencies, offices and galleries are really present and business is concentrated. The "Francisco de Miranda" Avenue is going until "Petare", small village whichbecame a district famous for its colonial architecture.

Some residential zones like "La Castellana", "Altamira", the Country club, "Sebucan", "Los Chorros", "Los Palos Grandes" are trying to keep their area free from the invasion of the buildings downtown. This is the reason why the nice area are far from the city center: "Prados del Este", "Terrazas del Club Hipico", "El Hatillo", "La Lagunita", "La Boyera", "Valle Arriba", but are full equiped of shops and supermarkets because of the presence of big malls.

The subway crossing most of the city (40 km of lines) is one of the most appreciated public transportation because of its speed and its cleanness. The inhabitants are really proud of their subway and are using it more and more frequently. Because of the size of the city it is necessary in order to move in Caracas to use subway, taxis, bus or metro-bus.

By night, the cultural life get wild through several events: concert, national or international play, ballet dancing, opera, poesy recital, conference and other organized actions. When night is coming, Caracas is changing. Sounds of Bolero, Salsa and Meringue are everywhere. bars and restaurants are full and the party begin, expression of different life style.

In many places you can dance with the craziest Latino American rhythms. But if you prefer you still get in touch with a cosmopolite places like: "Palladium", "L'Attico", "Weekend's" or even "OZ".
The night in Caracas offers an incredible mix of sounds you have always dreamed of.
